After its OTT release on OTT  in December, the film received acclaim from notable figures like Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, and Alia Bhatt.
At a special event, Vidhu Vinod Chopra shared his perspective on filmmaking and success, emphasising the importance of honest intentions behind a film. He recalled the challenges he faced while making 12th Fail, with even trade agencies predicting meager box office numbers.

Released in October 2023 amid a box office clash with major films like Animal, the movie resonated with audiences. Its depiction of UPSC aspirants and real-life experiences, especially the journey of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who rose from poverty to become an IPS officer, struck a chord. The film, based on Anurag Pathak's novel, stars Vikrant as Manoj and Medha Shankr as his IRS officer wife, Shraddha Joshi.
Despite initial doubts, 12th Fail has become a significant success both in theatres and on OTT platforms. It has even earned an independent nomination for the Oscars in 2024. Vidhu Vinod Chopra's reflection on the film's journey underscores the idea that an honest and well-made film can achieve success, regardless of initial scepticism or industry predictions.
