Films of late actor Michael Madsen that are simply amazing

Michael Madsen has indeed been a part of some truly unforgettable projects.

Over the course of his 43-year career, Michael Madsen had the privilege of acting alongside big actors such as Susan Sarandon, Geena Davis, and Samuel L. Jackson, and he also had the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most talented directors in the industry. Also, he frequently worked with Quentin Tarantino, appearing in five of the Oscar winner's ten films.

On July 3, Michael Madsen was found unresponsive at his home in Malibu and was eventually pronounced deceased due to cardiac arrest at the age of 67. His managers and publicist mentioned in their statement, “Michael Madsen was one of Hollywood’s most iconic actors, who will be missed by many.”

Celebrating Michael Madsen’s illustrious career, we take a look at some of his best work.

Thelma & Louise (1991)

In Thelma & Louise, Michael Madsen played the role of Jimmy Lennox, the loyal and caring boyfriend of Louise (played by Susan Sarandon). While the film focused on the wild and emotional journey of two women on the run, Madsen’s character stood out for his quiet strength and love. His performance showed a softer, more vulnerable side, proving Madsen could do different genres with ease.

During the Raindance Film Festival in 2014, he acknowledged Tarantino's significant role in initiating his career, describing Reservoir Dogs as his "genesis" as an actor.

Free Willy (1993)

Different from his roles as villains, Madsen portrayed the foster father of Jesse, a 12-year-old orphan who tries to free the orca held at an amusement park.

As he mentioned to The AV Club in 2015, "I am pleased to have been involved. It was one of those experiences that seemed to balance out the characters I had played previously, you know?"

Donnie Brasco (1997)

In the film adaptation of Joseph D. Pistone’s autobiography, Madsen portrayed the mafioso Sonny Black, alongside the actors Al Pacino and Johnny Depp. During a career retrospective with The AV Club, he acknowledged Donnie Brasco as one of the five best films in his filmography, despite his initial reluctance to audition for the role.

He explained his perspective, stating, "If I am suited for the role, then why not simply offer me a contract? I do not quite understand the underlying rationale." It was only after he travelled to New York to meet with Pacino that he was offered a role in the Oscar-nominated spy thriller.

Die Another Day (2002)
